Alt tags

I have a row of 5 little stars on 15 lines so that is a lot of the same alt tag. Is google going to mark me down? My college tutor said that alt tags are goox, but is this spam?

Google does index the contents of the alt tag, however the data it captures from them is not used heavily in the ranking algorithm - mostly for the reason you're highlighting.

I wouldn't have thought this would mark you down as it's perfectly valid to have the same image multiple times on a page.

Google are smart. They know that if you are going to have a rating system with stars that you are going to use a star image multiple times.

You'll be fine.

My alt tag is: gold star, keyword that ok? Repeated 75 times...

Alt is an attribute, not a tag.

If the image itself is repeated, Google won't mark you down. What it does mark you down for it every image having the alt as "Image not loaded, please press F5."
