hey guys, always used winamp2 for single click mp3's and itunes for playlists and ipods, but resently moved away from apple products and would like to rid my pc of itunes (i mean no offence to apple fan boys)

tried win media player, but was not as organised as itunes, what else is out there for a large library of music?

Winamp!

Genuinely, I find its library feature (using the "modern" skin) to be absolutely fine for my stupidly large collection.

im using winamp, but guess i have the lite version?

I'm just using the normal 5.5 version direct form the Nullsoft website.

It can be minimised right down to a tiny little bar that sits at the edge of the screen and displaces the whole display by a few pixels. You double click to get a floating library screen that fills most of the display.

It's great, means when I have things in the queue I can play in this tiny but persistent little band. It handles tagging as well or tbh better than iTunes imo and certainly doesn't struggle with huge media libraries.

I've tried to find better alternatives many times, but have always come back. Especially as it fully supports my ipod... i've never even needed iTunes.

im using songbird right now, it's quite heavy compared to iTunes, takes a while to open from start but it's pretty good and coming from mozilla, you'll always find something new to play with it lol

You could always try the Lite version of the current Winamp and just right-click on folders in Windows Explorer to get Winamp to play them, I think this is what bledd does.

Personally I use Media Monkey. A very good bit of kit. :)

yes i have been using the lite version at work and runs nice, its good to have a lite player for single clicks and a library based one for play lists and syncing.

I've just recently moved to foobar and the columns UI for it (using Rainmeter now for some desktop stuff) and I find it quite nice. It's not exactly pretty, but it does the job :)

Might give Winamp a try though, as I hear it is very good :)

yeah just been playing with winamp, and well pleased so far, takes a while to get to grips, but only cos i have been iwashed!

Winamp 2.0 was released on September 8, 1998.

Are you sure you have this version?

yes , and still use on my win xp machines, it was the best single click Mp3 player, i still have version 1.92 somewhere, winamp 1,2 were great, 3 became bloatware :( can't comment on 4, and 5 seems good :)

i have been using winamp since day one back with Netscape navigator the best browser ever :) he he
