The default email client on the ipad is not very good.

There is no way to collapse folder structures, meaning that mail boxes can take a long time to scroll through.

Are there any better alternatives, with collapsable folders?

I'm pretty sure that the party line is that the inbuilt client is good enough and you will like it.

I imagine there are alternatives if you jailbreak.

The problem is this is for business use.

Our staff are complaining that they have to scroll through 100's of sub folders, when they would just like to collapse them as they can in Thunderbird.

I cant believe that this is not possible on the ipad.

Obviously I can't comment on your company's mail policy but maybe they should have better mail management or do a bit of housekeeping. Not being funny but hundreds of sub folders, doesn't sound good whether its on iOS or desktop.

I'd be interested in this as well - I work for a small company and we use exchange for our emails. I probably have somewhere between 500-1000 folders and it is nothing to do with being disorganised - probably quite the opposite

There is a 3rd party one. Sparrow. Quick view of it can be seen on http://9to5mac.com/2012/03/14/sparrow-iphone-and-ipod-touch-email-client-hits-app-store/

Main thing to note so far is that Apple prohibits push notifications for the 3rd party email client. However if you happen to have your device JB'd, I recall seeing a post on 9to5mac that the Sparrow team were going to release a patch that allows Push for emails.

Also Pug, "Folders" are what clients tend to see as GMail's "label"s. Therefore if you utilise labels for stuff like receipts, various websites, you will have a good few folders when you view the account in Mail.
