Alternative Fibre provider

Currently with SKY, have been for around 8 years. In general been happy with the broadband then Fibre when I upgraded. I primarily use it for gaming on PC and XBOX. The girlfriend watches the TV package, I view very little of it. So SKY basically meets our requirements.

Due to circumstances in our flat we are having to move out. Currently based in Battersea and have just secured a new build in Wandsworth. To my disbelief we cannot migrate our existing Fibreoptic connection (i'm sure the TV service can be switched). Whether the cabinet is full or what, the customer service rep wasn't sure. I was told we can only have Broadband.

Just curious to see if anybody has had experience with any other Fibre providers. One coming up that seems to offer better speeds and cheaper prices is Hyperoptic. I'm not particularly up on the finer technical aspects of internet connections. So unsure what they offer is good quality or what the general service is like with them. I had a chat online and it seems decent but you never really know until you experience issues.

Could anybody offer any advice or suggestions on providers?

Big thanks

Benny

If it's a new build you'll most likely have FTTP.
Is this a benefit? I have googled it and in theory sounds great. So in essence full Fibre, as opposed to partial like I was getting with sky? As it used the copper wire line connection of the phone line? Sorry I'm not overly clued up on internet connectivity. :D

Are you going to be the first occupant of this flat? The BT checker often won't show FTTC availability (the service you're currently using) until a phone line has been ordered, so checking a neighbouring address should give a more accurate result. Use this checker https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ (phone number or address, not post code.)

Hyperoptic is the best ISP that I've ever used but they do not use Openreach's network (BT, Sky, Talk Talk, etc.) so you'd need to check whether they serve your building: https://www.hyperoptic.com/map/?residential

Just dropped the postcode in it came back as being available. Thanks for the link. My heart sank when SKY said they couldn't provide a connection to our building.
This could be a better solution, the girlfriend might not be too miffed at losing sky as she watches mainly netflix.

The flat has had previous tennants within it. If I'm honest (based on no real reason) I would prefer not to use BT. I would have tried Virgin but alas not available.

That's good. Hyperoptic's service is extremely reliable and can be turned on within hours of ordering if there is already a Hyperoptic branded socket in the flat. I'd recommend the 150Mb service for general usage - 50Mb has only 5Mb upload and 1Gb is overkill (unless you regularly download massive games, in which case it's pretty cool - I get about 110MB per second from Steam).

If you or your partner miss Sky's content, most of the good stuff can be streamed from NOW TV.

Thats great to hear, I currently get around 80-90mb on steam and have been happy with that so if it is matched or increases then that would be superb. Microsoft server speeds seems to be a little hit and miss but generally get about 70mb. So yes I think the 150mb packet option would suit and is a good price. We have discussed NOW TV so is definitely an option. Thanks for your reassurance regarding Hyperoptic.

Cheers
