Alternative Printer Cartridges/ Similar options

I have a very old HP Deskjet 895Cxi and it's just run out of ink. I don't do the most printing, and most of what I do is black and white word documents or webpages.

Do people here use those alternative cartridges that fit into their printers? If so, how have you found them performance wise? I'm very tempted to buy them due to me being a broke student
