Anyone recommend an alternative to the Dell 2007WFP?

I dont really need all the inputs of the 2007, but I want something as good or better for gaming at 1680x1050

I have had three 2007s and all three have gone back and im awaiting a refund.

Has to have both DVI and Analogue connections.

I play mainly CS Source, CS, BF2, AAO and Guildwars.

Budget is around £300 but could possibly stretch to £350 if its the right one.

Thanks

if you can stretch the NEC LCD20WGX2 is a fantastic screen and arguably one of the best in the market for gaming

Really? I thought the TN panel were better for gaming?

I had just about settled on the Samsung SM-225BW as being the best 20-22" for gaming.

The new IPS panel (like in the NEC) is just as good as your average 5-8 ms TN panel. Maybe it's not as quick as the 2 ms panel in a VX922, but that's not a typical TN panel, it's a super quick one, and much quicker than any widescreen TN panel.

TN Film is generally a more responsive technology overall, but you can't always rely on TN = fastest. Equally you can't always rely on response time figures. Inn practice the LCD20WGX2 has widely been considered as having comparative responsiveness to even the fastest TN Film models such as the Viewsonic VX922 even! For instance, see this review at BeHardware who compared it side by side with the "king of 19" models", the VX922. It's a very responsive screen for sure and when you also consider the OptiClear coating (vibrancy of colours and sharpness of image) and the use of DFC (dynamic contrast) then you have a very good gaming screen :)

edit: this was the initial review of the 20WGX2 at BH where they compared it with the VX922 as well :)

edit 2: and yes, the SM225BW is nice, but as Fish has said, won't match the responsiveness of the VX922

Thanks for the review link Baddass. That glossy screen does bother me though, I think I would need to see one in the flesh before ordering - trouble is none of the high street retailers seem to stock it...

So if LCD20WGX2 > SM-225BW for gaming where does the Dell fit in?

Maybe LCD20WGX2 > 2007WFP > SM-225BW?

What about Dells new E207wfp TFT?

I know its just about to be lauched in the UK, its basically the 2007 without the extra's, anyone know if its any good for £260?

Like the above post, I too am wondering about the glossy screen..

If you take a look at the specs on the Dell USA page (I can't link to it because of the competitors rules, but it's easy to find), which is now selling the E207WFP, it's actually a TN panel (given away by the 160/160 viewing angles), not the IPS from the 2007WFP (which has 178/178 viewing angles), so it's a cheaper panel.

Doesn't mean it's going to be awful or anything, but it means spec-wise it's in competition with stuff like the SM205BW and LG204WT which are quite a bit cheaper.

Can anyone tell me where the asset tag is on the 2007WFP as I need to do a return with Dell.

Seems i have the S-PVA panel instead of the S-IPS

And the screen is out of focus, grainy, very warm and there is a smell of burning plastic...

Thanks

Is it out of focus even when using the DVI in 1680*1050@60 Hz?

seems a good comparison really, BH rated the Dell highly and i found it to be more responsive in comparison with the 6ms Samsung SM205BW. In practice though it may be hard to tell much difference

Indeed it was, Dell has replaced it and I now have a A03 revision screen, it seems ok, however when the screen is black, there is a light blue pixel

Also I have found, since using the faulty one, now my DVI port on my gfx card no longer works :(

So im using analogue now...
