hi
had a bit of a brainwave, instead of having a radiator i was thinking of having an extra long tubing for my cooler say 10/15m then coil it up and use the coil as a radiator, my pc is situated near a window, i was thinking maby routing it out the window for extra cooling effect, a good idea?
cheers

Why not consider a car radiator - given that this is largely what a car radiator is?

There's a lot of stuff on how to use heater matrixes (I think that's how watercooling began) that you could read that would probably help.

I dont think that would be efficient enough to cool the computer

If you consider that a normal rad is made of copper and brass which is a lot more conductive than the plastic tubing

Additionally the amount of passes the water makes through the rad before exiting amounts to quite a distance

Finally the fins in a rad afford it a lot more surface area that a coiled hose wouldnt have.

I did, however, see a guy that made a huge tubing run of copper tube under the lawn of his garden to use the cool earth to chill the water

ok, one more thing once watercooled is there any need to use fans inside the case?
was thinking about this other heatsink that gets really hot was thinking about fitting one of those really small tanks to it as well

I still have one noctua fan blowing on the mobo vrm's and ram as they get toasty without any airflow.

I use a Ford sierra copper rad (600x280x50mm) I got off a certain auction site for £8:D

I have seen a setup where the guy had a large spiral of copper pipe on his wall above his monitor that his coolant ran into/out of.

Another option is a large tank instead of a rad.

Do you have a link for that pan? I remember a guy making a piece of "modern art" in his back garden out of copper tube, which also doubled as a radiator for his PC. Twas awesome, like the old Windows tubes screensaver but huge. Can't seem to find it now

Ive just had a search but cant find the link.

From what I remember, he had agreed with his wife that if she wanted the garden landscaped, he could have a watercooled pc. When they were redoing the lawn he laid a sheet of bent copper tubing about a foot under the grass.

The cool ambient of the earth meant that he didnt need rads or fans or anything - it was a very unique build - but it was years ago and i cant find the original article.

All this has given me a thought where i could pump water through my pc and out into the garden and heat exchanger in my koi pond, problem is summer when the pond is at 22c but still should be enough to cool a pc, but could i be arsed for such a task

I have also seen a good one where the guy buried a "tank" in his garden that housed the pump. The buried tank kept the water at the ambient temp of the ground and the pump was in there to save on noise. He then ran the 2 pipes into his room and plugged them into his wc circuit.

Best one i seen though was a chest freezer full of anti freeze. He was pumping something like -50c coolant through his waterblocks lol

Could work? The more coolant in a loop the longer it takes to become warmer so even if the cooling wasn't sufficient you'd be safe to try it while monitoring, given enough tubing (w/e that may be, 10-15m might be sufficient) it would probably work.

Just not sure why you'd want it to work :p
