As thread title really, I always though BT were a bunch of monkeys but they have confirmed it with my last phone call!

I cant get Virgin in my area but was wondering if there are anyone else who I can get my line through? I know it will be a leased BT line but any company that doesnt keep me on hold for 25 minutes can have my money!

Thanks

Hah, we were on hold for 45 mins the other day because they sent a termination even though we paid.:rolleyes:

Anyhow, I believe Sky now do phone stuff too.

Depends who has LLU available in your area. Orange have launched a service like the one you want, as have sky and many of the other ISP type providers, but it's very much area dependant, and normally also involves taking their broadband at the same time.

Well - If you think BT are bad, how poor do you think the other providers are ?

Our company did a review of Landline alternatives in the UK - we spent about 4 months reviewing them (and the project alone cost about £30,000) - and we included all the available alternatives. We were mostly concerned with cost (our phonebill was around £300,000 a quarter) - but we also focused on helpline / maintenance and quality as well as numerous other things.

After all the work - BT came out tops for home and business use. The competition were trailing well behind in all areas. So far behind in fact, it was a total shock to us.

And just out of curiousity - what number did you use to contact them and what was the reason. There are numerous contact numbers for BT and if you aren't happy with the result or wait, do a quick search on google for alternative (UK) response teams. I've never had to wait more than a minute for a result - but thats probably becuase I use the non-conventional helpline numbers.

Even if another company are sorting out your billing, the repairs are still done by BT staff around the country. When you report a fault to your ISP, it gets passed to BT to deal with as it's their equipment, cabling, cabs etc.

I used to do broadband repairs for them. Never had so many repeat faults - people given lines that are too far from the exchange, cabling running through underground water, loss of sync, service affected by other electronical items in the house (eg Christmas tree lights). It was a nightmare.

I've been with Telwest / Virgin for ages and not had call to complain... Yet. Unlucky you cant get them in your area.

What is that please, and is there a way to find out?

LLU = local loop unbundling, basically means the company has their own equipment in BT's exchange.

NOt sure where you can find who is active on yours, but I'm sure someone else will provide somewhere :)

There is a dedicated forum for this guys.

I'm in the middle of swapping to Tiscali as they include line rental.

Google for "line rental included broadband."

Ive got my line rental and my broadband from Pipex, took MONTHS(!!!!) to get everything working properly, but now I really couldnt have any complaints about it.
*shes says crossing fingers, toes and eyes, and praying she hasnt just jinxed it*:D

Is it to do with the cost? If it's for saving of a few pounds a month then forget it. I think it's basically you get what you pay for.

Nothing to do with cost just the fact that they employ untrained monkeys who cant even get a simple house move connection done properly

You'll just ahve to bite the bullet and get a BT line. I've had to do it in my new flat, i've just paid *** £125 frekkin connection fee too! :(

I live in MK, the TV system is the donkeys years old coax thats probably as green as a field with corrosion now, and there are no Virgin Media Services to my area!

BT are the only people who can offer me a telephone line, so they've got be between a rock and a hard place!

I've gone for *** very lowest option, 10.50 a month line rental, telephone line only!

Oh well! :(

True but isn't it a one-off house move? With that kind of customer services in every brand, I doubt you would find a better one.
