Have kind of asked this in another thread but I thought it best to ask in my own thread rather than derail someone elses.

So it has come to light that our citrix gateway product is out of support and wouldn't you know it we have a fault. :(

So recently we have users complaining that they can not get a stable connection when connecting to citrix and it locks up every 10 minutes or so.
This seems to affect some users more than others and I have experienced the issue myself with my home machine i get a lock up but then once i disconnect and reconnect it seems to work ok from that point onwards.

Not sure what is causing the issue so wondering if anyone has any suggestions on possible causes (I know this is fairly vague but I can provide additional info if needed)

With that in mind it seems that citrix have basically said if we want support we have to buy the newest hardware as well as a support contract which is ridiculous considering our current h/w is less than 2 years old.

So are there any decent alternatives that won't break the bank.

I have been looking at a couple of solutions including the following

using the inbuild vpn features of our Firebox (e5500 series) for mobile users. Suspect this will be the cheapest option and seems silly not to use the feature if it works well. Does anyone have any experience with this.

using something like open vpn (cheap to install but is it robust enough for business)

One of the requirements that has been highlighted is possibly moving to a two form authentication system so just wondering what is best for that for a mid sized business that again won't break the bank and is reliable and quick to install.

cheers in advance for any advice on this.

for two factor auth, take a look at securenvoy. you can either do hosted or on-premise. works via either sms delivery or using a soft token on your smartphone. i've integrated this into our citrix netscalers and it works really well, feedback from end users has been really positive.

thanks for the info guys.

i don't think the 2x offerings are quite what i am looking for as it seems an alternative to vmware rather than just a simple secure remote connection solution to the network.

the securenvoy solution looks pretty good. Having a software token solution would be a fantastic thing for us. It certainly means one less thing that can be lost or damaged.
