alternative to fidelio X2's

i use the x2/hr's from Philips and thought the phones were great when plugged into the laptop or tv and listening to youtube.
recently i picked up an Ifi zen dac and started using Tidal. with this combination the music sounds great, but occasionally im finding some high pitch sounds quite harsh.
when my partner listens, she finds the base a bit lacking with these phones.

what do people think would make a good alternative?

Are you using the buttons on the Zen DAC appropriately? The fidelios are easy to drive so having the power match button toggled could make them sound harsh and the True Bass button should give them a bit more weight?

both buttons are lit up/on. should the power match be off then?

Yes I'd definitely advise you not to use the power match button with the fidelio's and to make sure the switch at the back is set to variable and not fixed.
