I have found that water-based acrylic gloss (B&Q, Homebase, Brewers trade paint) doesn't yellow, whereas any oil based gloss yellows.

I would use a johnstones satinwood.

The term 'trade' doesn't mean it's a more superior product. It generally means it's a compromise of low VOCs and short term quality. Johnstones is more expensive for a reason it's better.

You won't find many one man band decorators that rely on word of mouth using trade products. You will find thousands of new build apartments being decorated in trade paints.

I've built thousands of apartments and we don't use trade paints on the penthouses.

Thanks man, that's useful. I'll pop into Brewers tomorrow to get some further advice too.

Seems like all white products are compromises. I might go for grey instead, as the hallway to my flat is internal with no direct light other than through other rooms. That bring said, grey woodwork and doors when I replace those might be a bit much!
