Alternative to Gmail and Hotmail?

I'm after an alternative email address that's in no way connected to Google or Microsoft. Don't worry, it's not tinfoil hat time

I was just wondering if there's a good alternative to those two?

The only good alternative is hosted exchange + your own domain.

I use my own, but then I also have it going through GMail cos its got great spam filters.

I'm going to mention zoho even though I've not used it...it can potentially replace email, calendar, word processor etc

I'd go with the personal domain and then grab a cheap package or use something like a synology nas (some support email servers) to be your email server

Indeed. I use office 365, but there are loads of other providers that can do the same off Microsoft's cloud.
