I really had my mind set on a 11400f based new PC, at £150 it seemed unmatched, but they never come in stock anywhere. Best price I've seen is £185 but made me think is there something better at that price point that isn't going to send the mobo etc upwards in price too. I was looking at the B560 boards at around £130 for reference.

Thoughts would be great.

Thanks

If you go 10400, be aware that it can disable an M.2 slot (depends on the board). Unfortunately the 10400 seems to have gained £30 or so too. If you wait until Alder lake releases there might be some nice discounts on Ryzen and 10th/11th gen.

One of more than one M.2, so you still have one or more, i take it?

You could have a 5600X/5600G and motherboard for the same money.

5600X is just too expensive at the moment, still selling in massive numbers...... maybe when Alder Lake launches.

5600G, yeah maybe close enough if you're careful with the board, if you find something like this in stock somewhere.

I have seen some 5600G on a large site i cannot mention here that are somewhat cheaper than the 5600X, comes to £310 5600G + that Asus board. His original option was £280.

I would still go for the 10400F TBH.

Thanks for the help guys. 10400 does come very close so is a good option. Pretty settled on 1080p currently and the 5700xt i have for a good few years i would think.

Just thinking about losing pci-e 4 and that gen 4 m.2 slot if i go for the 10400 over an 11400 but i don't find my current pc slow so doubt i'd be upset with a slightly slower m.2.

This motherboard should be fine:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...200-ddr4-micro-atx-motherboard-mb-35z-ms.html

The MSI Mag B560M Bazooka costs around the same too,and it has a bit better heatsinking(but you lose the Wifi).

Something like a Vetroo V5 or Arctic Cooling Freezer eSports Duo should be more than enough for the CPU(and also probably should be fine with a Core i7 at stock too if you want to upgrade). Unlike the Core i5 11400F,the Core i5 10400F is close to a Ryzen 5 3600 in power cosumption - I have one in a second system in a sub 6 litre case, and it seems to work relatively well without massive cooling.

I was hoping to re use the cooler i have, its a big Noctua twin fan, been fine with my last two intel builds so presume the mount spacing's are the same.

I've never had a m-atx, they look so small :D

Thanks

running a i5-10400f with 3200 memory on a b560 board and it doesnt skip a beat

all cores at 4ghz it comfortably outperforms the ryzen 3600

runs cool /uses bugger all power

then you have the option to chuck in a rocket lake later
