Hi are there any good alternatives to nero as the last time it was instaled it took up well over a gigabyte and that was with trying to strip it down .

imgburn

if you need to convert video to dvd, then use convertxtodvd, then use imgburn to build it

Been trying out Imgburn 1.8 mb very nice :D. Any idea's for a divx/avi file converter that will use both cores.

Quick question, I use ConvertXtoDVD for converting and burning and it seems fine to me, is there any advantage of using Imgburn to burn the dvds?

No since the burn process is the same from software to software. IMGBurn is a neat little package that does all the burning needs so may as well just use it if the transcode software doesn't support internal burning.

Handbrake :) it will use all 4 cores!

imgburn is more compatible to varying media types though, the burn process differs between software

Dont laugh...

Ashampoo Burning Studio.

dont be ashamed! i use that too, being free with last months pc pro magazine (yeh i know.. :o )

i find it quite good and doesn't use too much resources. Although, there are probably better free free burners out there as suggested above.

Hmmm I too was thinking about a replacment for Nero (v8's footprint is a bit ridiculous, and I was starting to go off it when in v7 they introduced smart Start and all player crap (no I don't have it installed)).
Trouble is, I love the inclusion of Cover Designer, as I burn a lot of audio CD's - it's so easy to burn a compilation, open cover designer and bang the track listing is there :)
I print the listing directly onto the CD.
Is there anything that would offer me a viable replacment?
