had an Iriver before... these sounded awesome.....
sold it and Shures for lack of playing to be honest....

then got a Rio Carbon and some more Shures.... sounded good - but never really heard much bass from them....

now got the Zen Vision M - was expecting a better sound than the carbon... i think it is ... but still not a great deal of bass.... nice but could do with some more....

is it the player or is there an alternative to the Shures ???
Dont want large phones mind!

TIA

Most people will recommend you go higher up the Shure scale i.e. E4s. The Sennheiser CX300s seem to be getting high praise recently for the price. If you want bass get the Sony EX71s which are super bass heavy if not crap in every other department. I use Shure E3c's and they do me fine but they probably wouldn't be bassy enough for you.

For decent bass you need the bigger cans to be honest anway. I love the all round sound quality of my koss porta pros since they were cheap but you want canal phones which those are not.

Shures are notorious for lack of bass but I think its fine if you get a proper seal with the foam tips (E3). Wont be the players. I was tempted to get a set of Super.fi 5 pro canal phones but I'm refusing to let myself spend anymore money on things I don't need for a while.

How much you got to spend? Super.fi 5EB are the ultimate bass head canal phones, without question.

But they will cost you £117.50 in the uk at the cheapest online store.

thanks for the option fellas.

these `Super.fi 5EB` - seem to have a few followers (from what I can read on the net...)

any more thumbs up for these - particularly the people who have tried the e2c`s as well...

TIA

I'm not a bass head, but I like well defined textured bass, something the e2c's can't produce, thats why I have a set in my draw that only got used 3 times.

I bought some super.fi 5 Pros straight after balancing pros and cons of all sub £200 canal phones. More than happy with my choice, they are fantastic phones.

EB's are great phones too but some do find the bass just a little too much! But then I spose you could eq some out.

My advice is to spend a few nights browsing here: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/index.php?

Bit of research on there and i'm sure u'll know what to go for, for the kind of sound you want.

M'well, there aren't that many alternative in the same price range as the E2C.
But if you are looking for an upgrade, then it is worth taking a look at the Westone UM2. Same drivers as the E5C (pretty bassy), but priced closer to the E4C/Super.fi 5.

Actually - I may have an improvement with the phones.... ive flashed it to the American firmware (getting rid of the limiter...) and turned off the Bass Boost.... and to be honest Im kinda liking the sound now.... they were distorting with the bass boost on.... think Ill give them a bit more of a chance I think...

Thanks for the inputs - I will see how the E2cs go for a while ;)

With US firmware try this eq setting

+11 -5 -4 -2 +1 ( no bass boost)

you will have to pump volume up a bit more than useral.

Id get a pair of UM2s - they sound great - got tons of bass without a hint of boom - Id say I get 2 times more bass than my ex71 but its totally clear and punchy and does not mess with mids or treble.

Another Plus for UM2s they are so comthy - they sit flat in your ears - so u can sleep with them on and they dont have microphonics when u run like other canal phones.
