Alternative to VLC?

Doesn't this also require a codec pack ?

not sure about the original MPC, but i know MPC homecinema comes with codecs built in based on ffmpeg so can do pretty much everything up to and including h264. Can even handle DXVA gpu acceleration.

Its pretty much the mutts nuts :D

Can also recommend KMPlayer - the built in codecs are also ffmpeg, but i prefer the lightweight GUI from MPC myself.

Looking for a lightweight video player which doesnt require codec packs to be installed, such as VLC media player.

Any suggestions?

For HD videos I prefer Splash Lite.
Doesnt support subtitles in MKV yet, but looks good, uses dxva and works really fast. I find it better than MPC-HC on my PCs.

For SD videos I keep using mpc-hc.
