Hi,

I'm currently using Windows Media Player 10 to view avi's etc., but there must be other alternatives out there.

Can anyone suggest anything, preferably free?

Deffo vlc for video as it plays everything...including image formats like .iso and .bin, and also partially complete .dat files for those people who still use Kazaa

For music i go with media player classic as it is bloatware free and has the best sound out of all the music players i have tried.

Winamp.... accept no substitite! ;)

I just cant get my head round the fact that Winamp is a music player.

I love MPC - its so minimalistic and together with K-Lite Codec pack and/or ffdshow it plays everything under the sun. :)

Winamp performs equally as well as a video player as a music player. I use it for steaming radio and tv via shoutcast, as well as my mp3 player and divx player. The only thing i don't use it for is Quicktime, but then I don't really watch many quicktime clips.

yeah you know the saying - Jack of all trades, master of none.

Media player classic is the best IMO. Or to be specific, real alternative+quicktime alternative+ffdshow. plays everything without the need for installing quicktime or realplayer.

Or winamp, for that matter;)

Couldn't have said it better! :D (Although i think that statement was meant to indicate a good thing!)

As Mr Miller rightfully said, "Jack of all trades...."

I'd just like to add that i had 15 seperate VLC windows open at the same time the other day and each one was playing a different pr0n video. :D Now that is some serious desktop tiling!! (Don't try this at home kids...you'll go blind) ;)
