Hi all,

I've recently noticed that the 1080p resolution for Youtube free account has dramatically dropped in quality. Full of artifacts. No doubt this is to promote the paid higher bitrate version. Are there any other sites worth looking at?

Hi all,

SOME new trailers have the 1080p enhanced bitrate for premium subscribers, but it doesn't always default to that version I find. Sometimes I end up watching the normal 1080p version without realising.

Even before this new enhanced bitrate came out, I noticed that a lot of movie studios were just releasing 1080p trailers with lowish bitrates. I don't think there is any shenanigans going on tbh. It's getting better though. Some trailers even come in 4k resolution now, and that is the same bitrate for paying and non paying subscribers. They might be finally realising that more people are watching on bigger screens.

Some examples:

Fall Guy new trailer came out today, only 1080p available
Alien: Romulus. 1080p and Enhanced 1080p
Godzilla x Kong: 1080p, 1440p, 2160p
Furiosa: 1080p, 1440p, 2160p
The Acolyte: 1080p and Enhanced 1080p

Edit: To answer your original question, I don't know of any sites with better trailers, and if there are they are not getting released 1st there, that will always be Youtube due to their reach. Many years ago I used to use Apple trailers as a very good alternative.

Yeah, I'm not interested in paying £12 a month to watch some trailers. It's clear that they've reduced the quality of their standard 1080p and I've no doubt that the enhanced bit rate will look better.

Then move to Argentina, Turkey or Ukraine. Big thread in the GD subforum about getting YTP for pence a month. I don't even pay £12 a year including a few memberships

As Junglist says, look here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/youtube-premium.18908299/ The price has gone up last year or so, But can be had for £1-2 a month, if that interests you.

I am literally paying 98 cents per month (95c for the service from Argentina and 3c for the currency conversion by my bank!). These days even a chocolate bar costs more than that!

Ignoring the enhanced bitrate (which is actually quite new) the other benefits you get from the subscription are worth it imo. Once you go Premium you don't go back :D

Yep, had it for a number of years now and I can't imagine using youtube without it. When I see how bad it is with adverts when I'm around a friends and he is using it on the TV it blows my mind
