Alternative Windows shells

Got reading an article at Lifehacker today about alternative shells for windows and liked the look of some of them listed.

Does anyone use an alternate shell (the ones listed at LH included Litestep, geoShell, Talisman, Aston and Emerge) and do you have any pointers to the best one in terms of stability and performance.

Thought I would ask before installing shed loads of chuff on my laptop!!

Tried most of them. Didn't really agree with me. Just patch the themes in XP and download them.

Litestep is pretty good, and installs shortcuts to switch between the regular shell and the litestep one.

I reverted back to the default shell after getting fed up of issues with Desktop Icons though.
