Hi guys,

I've been using CCleaner since it began (c.2003), although less and less recently admittedly. As time has moved on etc., but I've always periodically gone back to it and it's done what I've needed it to.

However, in the past 6 months or so I've found that with updates, it's basically unasable! So, are there any recommended alternatives? I only need general Windows/web cleaning, cache removable, monitoring start up entries etc.

Thoughts?

Window's built in Disk Cleanup is also good enough to use, and can even clear out old update files that aren't needed any more and previous Windows installations.

I use CCleaner v6.39.11548, which I believe is the last classic version before the awful new UI was introduced. This with the latest Winapp2.ini does what I need to clean old junk files.

I do use BleachBit too, but I find CCleaner has more choice of what you can choose to clean.

Yeah I just use an older portable version and have it set not to update. I tried all the other programs listed above but just prefer the old version of CCleaner.

Such a shame they turned it into bloat. Bit like Nero back in the day and then Avast. Just got out of hand with all the extra stuff and cluttered interface.

They are wanting to force the bloated version on us now fs. Don’t think my version has done that. It’s an old one mind and the portable version.

Thanks guys - I just went with 6.39.11548 portable in the end. I couldn't find a full installer.

I've turned off auto-update but are they still trying to force updates through, even after that?!
