Daft question, but do i have to apply for any sort of VISA or anything when i go?
Ive been reading this site: http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/arrange/essential/visa.html
And its not entirely clear.

Also, according to this:
http://www.yu-cho.japanpost.jp/e_a0000000/aa210000.htm
All japanese post office ATMs take both of the cards i plan on taking/using while im over there. :)

No for a holiday you won't need a visa, you will be required to fill in a form before the plane lands (immigration thingy) just state you're on holiday, if you have any problems ask the air hostess and they should be able to help you out.

That's a point - what airline are you flying with? I remember I went with Lufthansa from Frankfurt but the plane was full of Japanese so we got Japanese food for our meals. It was my first encounter with real Japanese food - a rice triangle thing with seaweed wrapped around it and soba noodles. For a big Westerner like me, it was hardly filling - good job I nabbed a few goodies from the airport shops!

Im flying with KLM on the way out and AirFrance on the way back.

So on the plane i'll be given a form to fill out will i?

Yes (at least that was the case when I went last year in April)

Oh and have fun ;)

Ive got myself a lonely planet book on Tokyo, read loads, and now its just a few minor things i need to sort before i go.
But one question:
Whats the weather likely to be like in Tokyo/surrounding area in early October?
Everything i read says 'mild'. But what is 'mild' classed as?

Thanks in advance again everyone. :)
