For the past decade or so I've distributed boxes of Haribo Tangfastics - the boxes with 100 16g packets inside - to the postmen, bin collectors, my local doctors' surgery, etc. It's time for a change, but to what?

I await your suggestions.

Edit: just to clarify, I give each a whole box.

Tesco's own jelly babies, liquorice allsorts and chocolate limes get my seal of approval, ~250g bags on offer for 95p each iirc at moment.

Just remember, eat liquorice in moderation if you have higher blood pressure.

Really? As someone in the service industry this is cliche and seems the bare minimum possible that you can do. It's like leaving a 50p tip.

I'm not your employer nor am I obligated to give anything. So no it's nothing like that.
Then again, perhaps these people are not seemingly as entitled as you are.

It's a strange psychology that people often seem to find a small token of thanks/appreciation more 'offensive' than no gesture at all.

I could understand it if you work in the service industry. I mean if I gave a waiter a 50p tip on a £50+ meal, that would probably not go down well as stated.
However, to people who work in jobs where tipping isn't the norm, I believe it would be appreciated.
They used to do an employee of the month thing in a previous job I worked at and I always thought it was silly because it was basically thanking people for doing the job they're paid for anyway, perhaps if it was done better and recognised people going above and beyond. But even then I've never really been a bare minimum sort of person so perhaps I just have trouble understanding it.

Anyway I stand by my comment, it's a nice thing to do, bare minimum would be to do nothing.

Here's a 1p bonus for working a 161 hour week :D

Isn't the bonus there the opportunity to do paid overtime in the first place ;)

You could buy one or more of those ~500g+ ~£4 tubs of Quality Street; Heroes; Roses etc. and break them down into little portions in ziplock bags to give out.
