My younger sister wants a small/light/cheap laptop.

When she was looking around, she found this: HP Pavilion dm1-4125ea

What are some alternatives that are around or below this price range that we should be considering?

Thanks (:

I found the choice of laptops <15" but cheaper than ultrabooks disappointingly small.

I first started out looking at tablets with bluetooth keyboards, then the £400 and £480 Asus transformer tablets [there is a couple of threads on them in the mobile forum]. I found 10" transformers and netbooks too small to type on but I rekon your missus should consider them if she is only interested in portable facebook updating etc.

With so few online etailers stocking anything 11.5 - 13.3" I started to look at the bricks and mortar shops [sorry OCUK but you just weren't selling any] which did have some. The choice came down to that HP you mention and an identical spec Sony £50 more with arguably better case build quality. I spent more on an ultrabook in the end but I think they are poor value compared with that AMD based 11.5" HP.

Edit: Oh, and there is that ginormous 11.6" Lenovo thread in this forum to look at ;)

I have a Probook 4330s which you can find for about £450 if you shop around (and even less if you have old hardware to trade in)

It's 13.3" and has a 2nd gen i5 processor, 4gb RAM, 1gb Radeon HD6490M, and a 640gb hard disk, or at least, the spec sheet says 640gb, mine actually came with a 750gb for some reason.

I'd opt for the lenovo x121e with core i3. I think it's around 400 with the nice options (such as 4GB of RAM and the bigger battery) and 350 without.
