I have a 1998 toyota starlet 1.3. When i bought it the alternator belt snapped and i bought a new one and had it installed. It continued to squek and a vibrating noise was coming from the alternator area. I had the alternator professionally repaired and have put the belt back on. The problem is the belt is still squeking and a melting plastic smell is coming from the area after a long drive.
I have tried the belt loose and extremely tight and everything inbetween. The problem seems that the pulley on the alternator becomes extremely hot ( cant even touch it hot, like an iron) after seconds of being on, this in turn makes the belt almost pliable and it is hot to the touch too.
Can anyone help me with this problem, i am lost and cant think of anything else to try. I have tried the belt slip spray and it helped for half a day.
Thanks in advance
