Peeps,

Recently purchased an RX480 as an upgrade. Also I need to upgrade my monitor as I have recently had to downgrade due to moving out and the only spare monitor was an old school dell 1280×720... Christ.

Now I have around £300 - £350 so nothing to set the world alight.

The main argument is 1440p or 1080p... also will Freesync be required if I went for 1440p to keep decent performance?

I keep 2nd guessing myself. Will be using it for gaming mainly... WoW, BF, League, other FPS's in future.

Keep bouncing between a nice 27" 1080p curved screen will be sufficient, I'm only casual gaming...

To... I want to make the most out my card so lets go 1440p bells and whistles.

:(

I'd go for 1440p personally if it was me, I think you'll only regret it down the line if you dont.

Agree. I'm running 1080p now with no complaints, but when I buy again it will be 1440p at least.

1440p Freesync, you won't regret it. The RX 480 is perhaps borderline for 1440p at Ultra settings in newer games, but Freesync will offset this.

Another quick question, will I be getting anywhere near 144 fps with a RX480 on a 1440p monitor?

I was looking at Asus MG279Q - however I have heard that is a bit of a lottery with the panels... and if I won't be getting anything like 144fps then I might as well just opt for a 60hz monitor?

The good thing about 144Hz is that you don't need 144FPS to benefit from it. You could get 80FPS and still notice the improvement.

The MG279Q is a good monitor to. There has been a higher than usual quality control problem on all 144Hz IPS monitors but you can easily return it if you are unhappy with it. Some places give you a free return label.

Otherwise you could get the BenQ XL2730Z which has a better track record, though it uses a TN panel so has worse viewing angles and worse colour reproduction.
