Official wage is massive but is dependent on a number of things such as private work, number of patients, outcalls, etc.

Pension, no idea.

Lot of hard work though.
 
Let's say it starts around £60k, but there are so many things that make it vary (usually upward):

Patient count, Area you practise medicine in, whether you're a private physician or not, how many partners are in your practice, whether you're a partner or just a locum whether you have a sub speciality (diploma's) and take on other GP's patients, research, practise target's met, Locum'ing etc.

I'd say up here it's about £75k+, but sometimes it can be as high as £280k. I know one guy who doesn't work weekends and earns £150K!! Lucky bugger!!!

Dont forget you've got about 10 years of training to get through as well....the exams are obviously no cake walk whhen its people lives....and *then* you need to get the money together to set yourself up.......

As stated by the others - there are far too many variables to give a definitive answer.

The one constant, however, is that you will be worked like a dog for a good long time.
 
It would have to me bloody good wahe for me to take the **** that they have to put up with and to examine some of the more fragrant members of society :eek: :p

Good God!! I didnt realise it was anywhere near that much, over quater of a million a year. :eek:

That must be in exceptional circumstances, in an expensive area, and doing lots of private work.

It's possible to earn a lot as a GP but you always need to balance how much time you spend at home, too.

There's such a shortage of people wanting to do the out-of-hours work now that one time our local place had some German guy come over for 3 days and do...a night shift, evening shift, night shift, maybe a morning shift....and then flew back to Germany. Madness :eek:

I heard that being a GP has its advantages although there is more prestige within the specialist route....

Dude. If you're in it for the money, you're not going to make it as a GP.

Expect £60k - £100k. Pension isn't really relevant, on that kind of money you can provide for your own anyway.

I wouldn't want to be in education that long. I think i'd have had my fill come the end of my degree or maybe a year post-grad. That would make me 22/23.

£lots :)

Also, being a GP you get the consistency of the same patients/area so you build up a reputation, which is basically prestige...whereas as, say, a consultant you have prestige simply because you're the consultant, not because all the people know and revere you. Different styles for different people I guess :)

It depends on experience, location, degree of private practice etc...

What with the old lady being a GP and the old man being a consultant, you would have thought I had a better idea.

I'm sure that there are basic levels of earnings, but they are purely indicative.
 
Basic wage for a GP is >£50k.
In this country they are the most well paid in Europe.
With private work (such as cosmetic surgery etc) 100k is quite common, which is more than some surgeons
GPs are pretty well off, somepeople would say overpaid.

My girlfriend is a med student, Im hoping she'll come over to work and look after me lol :)
