Am I a sad old man?

Ok, well tonight I went out with a group of mates - about 10 of us.
Played about 3 hours of pool at the snooker club and then left with the intention of going into town.

I had the whole devil/angel thing going on in my head, devil was saying go out - forget about the fact you can't afford to! Angel was saying - catch the bus home, save yourself another £30 on top of the £20 you already spent...

My mates were all nagging me and giving me stick 2 go out with them but I just couldn't do it, which left them all walking off in a ***** off sort of manner.

Am I the only person that doesn't find blowing the last remaining bits of my cash on getting ****** and dancing (trying) to **** music. Or am I being a sad old loner who cares too much about his cash than having a good night with the lads.

Am I at uni to get ****** and have a good time, or look after my cash, make sure I've got enough to last till pay day? (15th feb :()

Rant over.

Well done, you chose the better option! You'll be the one laughing when the end of the month arrives and its bill paying time ;)

at the sametime uni is the only time you're able to act like a grownup kid...if you get me. I'm in my third year and i have one more left after this. My advice is of course live within your means but dont let the time pass you by...after uni its 9-5 for the next few decades

If you joined your mates, why would you have to get hammered and spend a fortune?

If you don't have to get drunk to have a good time (and you decry those who do) then you could have joined your mates for the craic and just had a good laugh.

Thanks for backing me up on this one, I just got the feeling from how shocked people were and how they gave me stick that I was being a bit of a loner. I don't mind going out, but I'd much rather spend a few hours down the pub playing a few games of pool over going out to a club. But I guess the group of people I live with like both! O well, just wish they'd respect my decisions rather than take the **** out of them.

Finally, someone at uni who doesn't want to get ****ed off his face

:p

I didnt even start drinking till just before my 21st, did the whole first year of uni without drinking!!

To OP - im the same unless its planned or gonna be really good i wont bother going out happily save some cash and go home. Or ill go out and not drink and just have a "chilled" one

Old man tbh . Na you could have just gone with them and just not spent all your money?

Sadly enough I'm not the type to start dancing unless I've had a few, plus I'd probably get food and need to get a taxi home - so it's £20-30 min.

I can have a good time without drinking, but when we go to these type of clubs it normally involves dancing for a couple of hours - unless I wanna be a loner and sit - which doesn't appeal either.

Try reading "Yes Man" by Danny Wallace. ;)

Just read a description of it, seems pretty good.

I'd be all up for saying yes everytime, if I could afford to.

I'm one of the few people working in my group of mates, and my only loan (maintenance) pays for my rent almost exactly. So I need to pay for going out and buying food with my job.

The other guys either get their rent paid for them by their parents and blow their maintenance loan on going out, or blow their maintenance loan and rack up a load of debt on a student account or credit card.

I have no debt apart from my maintenance loan and my student loan - I'm not touching a student account.

You'd be wise to take a student account and take the interest free overdraft etc and at least stick it in an ISA if you're not going to blow it on hookers drugs and video games like everyone else.

Hmmm... £1200 or £1500 is the average amount u get from a student account aint it?

How much could I make from now until September 2009 if I invested it in an ISA?

*rubs his hands* roll in the money... :p

Video games are covered in my pay from ASDA. Drugs and hookers however...

I think average rate is around 6%.... Probably gonna be looking at £150 free, for doing nothing, over just over 18 months with £1500.

I had a friend that put his student loan in to a cash ISA each year, when he came out he paid off his student loan straight away and had enough left over from the interest to buy a nice little car. :)

Hmm, I just worked it out to be £135 for 18 months in a 6% ISA. Maybe the stock market? My dad is pretty good with shares, he made £1000 in 2 years from a £1000 investment. Main profit was from oil companies.
