Am I a sad old man?

Hmm, I just worked it out to be £135 for 18 months in a 6% ISA. Maybe the stock market? My dad is pretty good with shares, he made £1000 in 2 years from a £1000 investment. Main profit was from oil companies.

Well with the stock market there is associated risk. I think there is a lot less risk or even zero risk with an ISA, although i may stand corrected. You're getting £150 or whatever in your pocket with no hassle or work from you whatsoever, that's a few nights out.

I'm just wondering though, with the ISA - would I be able to take it out straight away - or is there a time limit before I can withdraw the money? I don't want to miss the date I need to pay back the student loan and start paying interest.

**edit**
Just read up on an Egg mini ISA. 6.05% and no notice required for withdrawal, no charges either. Plus I can add to it whenever I want, so if I can add another £500 to it before september, I'll have made £45 in 6 months, then with the £2000 - I'll make £121 in the final 12 months before I withdraw it. Making £166 in 18months. Not bad I suppose!

you dont need to pay back most student overdrafts for aaages. just tranfer it onto a graduate account.
going out is your choice i suppose so doesnt matter what other people think?
although personally id go out everytime, depending on your year though. first year if you dont go out everynight your a bit silly imo. its incredibly easy, it doesnt count, and you make more friends, and meet more ladies that way.

main point of my post though is to encourage you to get a student overdraft...they really are a no brainer, just like getting the loan even if you dont need to.

Sad old man, just read your thread on saving your money in your student/postgrad account. It's yawn worthy. You could have gone out and not got battered and spent a very little and no one has any work due for at least another month or so.

Actually I'm currently writing my dissertation proposal (3000 words) and it's worth 70% of the module. + I've got a test in 2 weeks worth 50% of a module too! :p

If saving / making money is yawn worthy to you - thats fine... but money certainly helps make living a bit more comfortable.

Good, you have an opportunity to deal with these hang-ups early :p

Deal with them early and dont linger :)

Option #2: Drink like the 1st one is your last, and drink your last one like its your first :D

sad? bully stuff ...do ya own thing man :)

look at it this way, when you finish uni ,you will most likely have little to no debt, provided your investment goes well. so suffer a bit of peer pressure durign uni and maybe make life just that little bit easier for yourself later

I like your motto, I think I'll use this on the nights I can actually afford / be bothered to go out on.

Yeah, I just need to be a little less indecisive and make it clear "I can't go out tonight, would love to but I can't afford it at the moment - maybe another time!"

meh, you're only a student once (normally anyway, pedants ;)), i'd have gone with them without even thinking about it. I wouldn't have gone to the snooker club if I knew I wasn't going to follow it through.

What you should have done is blagged a few rounds off your mates (like a proper student) then caught a taxi home :D

win/win

If you feel a little guilty, get a pack of 4/8 in from the supermarket..say a tenner total

i woulda scrounged some drinks then made them pay taxi.
Or do a taxi run, haha.
You should tlel em next time have a night in with aload of tins, get some pizzas(from supermarket!) and watch some dvds or something,or just go to a houseparty..?

Baaa @ the ISA thing, my dad pursuaded me you had to giv em notice so it wasnt worth me getting full loads to whack in there and then pay off when i leave.

The person saying 'i only have my student loan and maintenance loan' ermm.. only?
Thats what everyone else has.. at most.. maybes a £1k overdraft ontop of that, but when you're talking that much money £1k more is hardly much is it.
Id hate to have had to pay the new fees of up to 3k a year, 9k for 3years of tuition fees, lets say a good 8.5k ATLEAST for 3years accom, then you'v got the living costs. Sweet jesus thats a massive chunk out of possible mortgages.

I would have gone with them, but not spent a load there, have a drink or two, share a cab home which will work out, if you're lucky to about £20ish spent for a good night out, and you'll have money left, and not be hungover the next day!
