Or do I need to get a professional to do it?

Gf is getting a new oven and has been informed that the electrical sockets that are currently behind the existing oven have to be moved before the new one can be installed due to new regulations.

I'd like to save her some money and do it myself if possible but am not sure I'm allowed to any more but I'm sure one of you lovely lot will soon tell me :-)

You can do whatever you like in your own home & if anybody asks just tell them 4T5 said it was Ok.

I think you can but then need to notify LABC but then they ask for competency certificates and testing certificate so the short answer is no.

Under Part P they quote the following.

Adding a socket to an existing circuit in kicthen is notifiable work, therefore you can't do it your self.

Replacing a damaged accessory, such as a socket or ceiling rose isn't notifiable work.

Fairly sure I can, it only needs to be moved a foot or two, closer to the fusebox so I was expecting to make a nice big mess chasing it out of the wall and chasing it back in again a couple of feet over, assumed (could be a baaad thing there) I could leave the slack in the ceiling?

I'm sure if you're only isolating the mains, taking the faceplate off, unscrewing the wall screws and then just running a different route you should be OK however you are flying close to the wind and really should take a judgement decision yourself as no electrician is going to say yes and no one is going to say yes who isn't qualified.

I'd say no but I have to.

Officially you can't move it, as your not a qualified electrician, & as a electrician I can't recommend you doing so. .

But, many people move sockets without ever telling anyone or notifying anyone, so it's your decision as what to do.
