So my question is does is my psu not up to the job?

TBH it should be ok, what are the 12v amps for it? What happens when you run something like prime95 and furmark at the same time? (This is the best way to make sure your PSU is up to it, since your system won't ever be under this much load/stress in normal/gaming usage) If your PSU isn't powerful enough the PC will just restart.

Just done a quick Google search (as I didn't know what mup.sys was) and couldn't find anything that would suggest that it would affect your PSU, or vice versa.

Well going of that, what are the issues you are experiencing?

Its a very random error and appears to be fixed by many things, last time i saw it I changed my psu and it was fine after, probably more of a coincidence than anything :D

Either way it was a question that was playing on my mind after adding another hdd.

Well I just ran the Outervision PSU calculator and they all (PSU calculators) overestimate the power requirements. Your system based on the HDs being sata and having three case fans would draw under absolute 100% load ... 389W @ 26.0A.

So I'd say your PSU is fine.

Doesn't matter it's the combined total that counts. Otherwise when you get the 'gimmicky' PSUs which split the load over 5/6 12V rails that are relatively small it wouldn't be of any use :p

i would say that system draws between 250 and 300w under load. You would hope a 470w psu could withstand 470w continuously but the liklihood is it wont and will only be 70-80% efficient at full load. This is usually why psus get overly spec'd
