am i bad?

tbh, games that you complete via guides or cheats just isnt worth playing. half the sensation of HL2 and its offspring are from trying and failing, and the tension that your not going to make it out half of the situations

If you wanna use cheats in a SP game, go for it. You may find it reduces your sense of tension, achievement and enjoyment however. I can see why people do it though, if they don't have a lot of time to dedicate to gaming but still want to experience the full storyline etc of games.

Walkthroughs are a bit different and I actually use them myself when I'm struggling to figure out exactly what I need to do, or am having a lot of difficulty with a particular section. For example "boss fights" in some games can only be won using a particular strategy, maybe pressing or shooting buttons at the right time etc. Rather than waste an hour figuring out what you need to do sometimes it's a lot less frustrating just to look it up on gamefaqs or whatever. I don't view this as cheating since you still have to actually beat the game under normal conditions, it's just that you have a bit of extra information to guide you.

Yeah, you suck! Finished HL2 a few minutes ago without help from walkthroughs. Didn't even know cheats existed for this game!

One or the other, either tactically inept (cheats for infinte ammo, health) or unimaginative (walkthrough) but not both surely!?

(okay, I used a walkthrough for parts of Vampire bloodlines...)

well i completed hl2 upto the end of ravenholm without cheats, and tbh i dont like the tension :( its a rather odd feeling that i don't really like!

With cheats i still get to say ive played hl2, but i can do it without the bit i don't like

Walkthrough just helps me know what to do next, if im honest i would be able to work it out myself, but my excuse is i'm lazy :)

Ive only ever cheated to finish a game once, Fear it was. Id tried to play through two or three times previously and eventually got bored each time. I heard the ending was good and wanted to see it but at about 90% of the way through i just ended up using the cheats so i could just charge on to the end.

what's the point in playing it if you cheat?
the only time i cheated was when i forgot to backup my saved game and cheated to get back to where i was

A lot of people seem to ask this "what's the point in playing if you cheat?".

As I mentioned before, gaming often involves an experience, an evolving storyline. Some people can probably get more enjoyment out of a game by using a cheat to get through a tough section, as this then enables them to play the rest of the game.

Imagine a situation where you have dedicated 10+hrs to playing a game. You are really into the story. But you are only halfway through and know that the best is yet to come. Fantastic level design, an engaging story and all the rest of it. And you have got stuck on a particular section, maybe because you've run very low on ammo or health. You've spent an hour continually trying from the same savegame and are starting to get very bored and frustrated.

In this situation, cheating is simply a means to an end. The reason people cheat is so that then can progress and get to the next 10hrs+ of fantastic gameplay. If they didn't cheat, they'd be missing out.

it is a waste of time, its like hl2 done in an hour and a half. yeah fair play to the d00ds for finding the bugs in games and utilising them, but your missing out on the hours and hours of thought that was put into the game. (dont worry ive been drinking) lol!

No, with cheats you have seen HL2, not played it.

Waste of time and money, might as well have just watched someone with confidence play it tbh.
