Am I being attacked?

So today I bought a £10 top-up for my '3' dongle (1gb). Usually this would last me around 2 weeks, because I avoid downloads or video streaming etc, and only use it for browsing websites. But I purchased the voucher at around 6pm, and just got a notification that I'm almost out of data!

All I've done is browse a few forums and chat in IRC. So I'm wondering if is some kind of malicious attack that is draining my bandwidth?

I've used this dongle for over two years on my netbook, and never had any problems like this before.

Any ideas?

(and I can't call '3' about it because no phone)

Photos in the forums, or do you have images switched off?

I can't imagine anyone malicously routing traffic through a 3g dongle, it would be too slow to bother with.

Windows updates? Dropbox?

Pictures are normal. But as I said, the top-up usually lasts much longer (a week minimum). And I've done nothing I don't usually do.

Automatic updates are disabled for windows and other programs. But even if one slipped through the net we're still only talking a few mb, not 800+.

(no idea what a dropbox is?)

Is someone somehow tethering or hooking up to your dongle and using it's bandwidth? Is there an admin panel for it or something where you can see connected (or previously connected) devices?
