I have Virgin Media upto 120Mb

I hvae the Superhub... first revision I believe

I use a Belkin wireless adaptor

My desktop which is wireless gets about 70mb d/l when using speedtest amd as such when downloading via Steam or Torrent, im getting 7-8Mb

Now im not unhappy with that, but it would be nice to max out the connection

However Virgin say, 70mb is good for a wireless connection and that I shouldnt really expect max

Sounds iffy to me, but is that true?

Im upstairs, router is downstairs - signal strength is generally the strongest bar

Have you tried plugging a cable in between your pc and sh just to make sure you're getting the 120mb to start with?

The theoretical bandwidth of wireless is always a best case scenario and you'd generally struggle to hit it - I think the superhub 1 is listed as supporting up to 130mbps on 5ghz so 70mb is actually not too bad.

I use plug adapters now though as the throughput is more consistent (not as good as ethernet, but considerably more reliable than wireless).

Sounds fine to me. Speedtest measures in Mb, steam and torrents measure in MB.

70Mb is around 8MB.
