Ive just installed a new GeForce 7300GT AGP card in my main machine with the intention of using it with a new 30" LCD to run 2560 x 1600 resolution. I've connected up the display using a dual-link DVI cable, and as far as i can tell (and OcUK confirmed this too), the 7300GT supports dual-link as well.

The monitor only seems to fit the resolution of 1280 x 800 on the screen, and anything higher just means the display pans the resolution. I can set it at 2560 x1600 but it doesnt fill the screen correctly

have i missed something? how to i get the display to show 2560 x 1600 properly?

using latest NVIDIA 175 drivers for the card
using dual-link DVI cable
there's no OSD on the monitor, and no driver (it's a Hazro HZ30W)

there's

use NVIDIA scaling
use NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ratio
use my displays built in scaling
do not scale

tried them all tho....

edit: i think it's windows to blame, since i dont have 2560 x 1600 as a res option unless i create it manually. running win XP. is there some patch or something perhaps?

Go into display properties/settings/advanced/monitor and uncheck hide modes this monitor cant display. It should then let you select that big resolution.

try the above first. but are you sure its not just dual dvi ports. or does it definatly support that res. seems like the res your running is the max supported for one dvi port for that card. seeing as its directly half.

though im not sure ...

yep, it is there as an option, but still shows as a massive res where the screen pans instead of "squashing" it to look right

yeah it;'s got a single DVI port and a single VGA port. The DVI port is supposed to be dual-link DVI, capable of 2560 x 1600 from one port (if you have a screen and cable to match). the NVIDIA specs suggest the 7300GT supports it:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/extreme_hd_gpu.html

it's def a dual link cable. I've just tried 94.24 drivers and the only res detected now by windows is 1280 x 800

if i force the full res via powerstrip, the image is all distorted and weird (ie not supported)

beginning to wonder if the GFX card can actually support dual-link DVI after all?!

any other ideas? thanks for the help so far

According to the online manual this monitor requires a 7600gt minimum, even though nvidia state it is compatable.
Try running at 1920x1200 60hz which is the limit of single link dvi if that works ok then i think the card isnt compatble.

it doesnt want to take 1920 x 1200 either, just corrupts the display....

Did a bit of googleing and it seems 1280 x 800 is the max res you can have if your graphics card isnt dual link,a few people with mini macs + 30" monitors arehaving the same problem. So i think its time for an upgrade. Its very naughty nvidia saying it will work when obviously it doesnt. Have you phoned nvidia to comfirm it 100%?
Have you tried the other resolutions recommended in the manual?

well i only just bought it from ocuk on the assumption it was dual-link (one of the shop bods confirmed it for me)....there's no manual for the card that i can find sadly so cant double check. 1280 x 800 is the only res that windows recognises now, it wont even allow me to force 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x1200 or anything without it panning the display.

make sure the max res of your card is 2560x1600 i know the XFX 7300GT doesnt have that and its max res is 2048 x 1536 / 85 Hz some other brand cards do though.

I have the same issues your describing if i try and run my 30" Dell off a laptop or other device that is not dual link and or wont run that res.

ive just plugged the same monitor into my media centre machine, using the same cable, and it works fine!

thats using an ATI 3450 HD graphics card, the same dual link DVI cable. so it must be my main PC or the new NVIDIA card which is causing the issue. all references to the card suggest it can do dual link 2560x 1600 though. very odd

thanks everyone for your advice so far :)
