Am I being selfish?

A friend of mine recently got banned from driving and lost his job (For reasons I don't know). I've managed to land him a job at my work which is around 13miles each way from where we live, now I've got a feeling I'm going to be playing taxi for the foreseeable future (His first day is tomorrow and I've already been asked for the 1st lift), I don't mind doing this occasionally but if it's going to be a frequent occurrence I feel like I'm being taken for a bit of a mug unless the person offers to chip in for fuel.

What do people think, am I being reasonable in my thinking or selfish?

How long is he banned for?

If it's a friend I probably wouldn't mind giving him a lift as long as he contributed towards fuel (although I'd hope if he was a decent friend he'd offer without me having to ask).

Just ask him to go half's on the cost of the fuel if it turns out he wants to do it on a regular basis, its not unreasonable.

Personally, I'd do it for free for a week or so then ask him what his plans are, then say he can chip in on the first payday.

About 3 months left on the ban IIRC, although getting insured after being banned could always be challenging.

Why does everything have to be for money? A couple of years ago I gave an old school friend who works at the same place as me a lift to work for about 2 months after she wrote her car off. I didn't want anything in return.

more like that's what you tell yourself when you didn't even get a hand job out of it

Go halfs on petrol costs. If he's good enough he will do this without you asking

Your both going to the same place,So its not a huge deal UNLESS..your having to travel far-ish to pick him up first before you make way to work.

I was in a similar situation with my mate before,Even though he didn't ask for anything i always gave him some money on a friday for all the lifts..

I done him a favor before though,I got him his job with more hours than he had at his previous job so..

If i was going to the same place anyway then i would not ask for anything but if i was the passenger i would offer to pay towards costs

You've arranged for your mate to work at your place when you don't know for what he was sacked?

Sounds risky. Or bull[poo] ;)

Depends on how close a friend he is. I wouldn't really charge a close friend if they couldn't afford it starting a new job week in hand etc.

If its a frequent thing he should offer to chip in.
