Am I being thick - Blow torch

I just bought one of these, I've screwed it all together, turn the gas on I can hear the gas escaping but I can't seem to light the gas every time I take my lighter to it it blows it out, I tried lighting it on the lit gas hob but it just seems to blow the flames.

Turn the gas on very gently and then try lighting it, as it flames then turn it up.

The little screw that screws over the vent needs to be either fully open or closed (can't remember off the top of my head). Have you tried moving it?

If it's the same as a Bunson the valve needs to be closed when lit

Close the air, turn the gas on a little, if that doesn't light, crack open the air a little bit.

Most don't have variable vents.

They are hard to light, once lit leave totally level for a minute or two to heat up. Once fully heated it should stay lit and you can start waving it around.

thanks guys, turns out I'm having a thick evening, once I figured it out I screwed the metal bit off to put it away, luckily it occured to me fairly quickly that this had actually punctured the gas canister and I was now leaking gas all over the place. DOH!
