Am I better off waiting?

I have just cancelled an order for a computer base unit.

E6600 dual core
Gigabyte Aurora case
2* Geoforce 7950GT CARDS
Asus board etc.

I have been messed about for a fortnight and then told parts out of stock.
Would I be better off waiting a few months for DX10 and Vista. Never done that before as you can wait for ever and something else comes out.
I wondered if this was an Omen as the graphics cards will be out of date very shortly and as two of them cost nearly £400.oo is it worth it.

You'd be much better off getting a single NVidia 8800GTX, which supports DirextX 10, and Vista which is already out. No need to wait.

Thanks for your reply. I was just wondering if this one card would perform as well as the two lower rated cards as these are on a quad board.
Do you have any opinions on this. I suppose I could purchase one card and buy a second later when they drop in price.
I didn't know Vista was out yet!

Best bet would be to ask the specific graphics question in the GFX forum.

It would be daft spending all that money on an admittedly very fast GFX setup, but not have directX 10 support.

Yes I agree! I have just started finding several games that will not play on my graphics card because it doesn't have shader 3. The cards I was going to buy do. But now the dx10 cards use shader 4 which means very shortly I would be in the same boat.
I am now looking at buying a dx10 card as you suggest and add another down the line.
I don't see any retailers supplying Vista though. Only as an upgrade later.

Thanks for your opinion.

DX10 cards will run every dx9 game.

I agree. But they will start writing games just for DX10 as they do now just for dx9, and that won't be long. I might as well futureproof as much as I can.
As I said DX10 uses shader 4. So all other cards will be exempt from playing anything modern.

Wow!!!! Just read a review on an 8800Gtx and it is over twice as fast as a 7950GTx2 in some games with the graphics turned up full.
Definately the way to go! Imagine two of these!!
