Decided to send my Viewsonic 2025M 20.1" screen back because it has a LOT of noticeable backlight leakage - I watch movies a lot and so its noticeable - especially i nthe dark because the black bars are not proper black like they should be -very annoying - and apart from tinting on certain text on website it was pretty good!

Now I only wanta aa 19 or 20.1" WS monitor.

I don't want the Belinea because its ugly - so that leaves me with no more P-MVA panels to choose from

The NEC, whiel more expesnive, seems to be very good but I hear its not so good for movies - which is obviously a killer for me.

Finally there is the Dell http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-011-DE

I chose the VS over this because of the P-MVA panel - liek the NEC the Dell has the S-IPS panel...however I read this article about how some of them come wit hthe Samsung MVA panel now

Is there anyway to try and get a Samsung one on purpose and would it be any better for movies?

Aside from that do I have any other choices for good MOVIE watching panels???

I had the VS running for a few hours, naturally, now I am back on my small CRT it looks crud!!

Can you buy thin CRTs??

There's no real way of knowing which version of the 2007WFP you'd get. It's using a Samsung S-PVA panel by the way, a little different from MVA/P-MVA. It's not really any better in terms of movie noise than S-IPS though. MVA has the smoothest movie playback of modern panels really.

You could maybe try your luck again with the VX2025WM, since backlight bleed is down to build quality really....maybe a replacement would be more suited. Regarding movie noise tho, it's never really a massive issue as long as you can watch from a sensible distance of a metre or two away, so i wouldn't let it put you off the other models too much

Thanks - thing is though I often downlaod TV shows and watch them right at my seat in my spare time - I could ntice artifacts with the Viewsonic but it was acceptable.

I might order the Dell and NEC at the same time and try em both out!

BTW I read at TFTCENTRAL about a new type of technology from MVA - any ideas how far away it might be til we see soem of these screens?

Yep, AMVA screens are starting to emerge now really. We have a 42" LCD TV released from BenQ which is the first, but there are 20", 24" and 26" AMVA desktop monitor panels waiting to be used :) check out TFTCentral again soon for some more info :)

Interesting! Do yuou think tis worth holding out a while to try one? are we talking weeks or months and what was the opinion on the Benq?

i think we're talking months really. Maunfacturing of the panels has started, but we're only just seeing models using their other P-MVA panels starting to emerge, i think it will be a little while before (BenQ probably) release AMVA based screens for desktop use. The BenQ FP241W is a very impressive screen, i've not had chance to try one myself yet, but from what ive seen it offers some excellent all round performance. The only thing some are moaning about is the lack of aspect ratio control, but this is being fixed in batches due soon, and will be in place when the FP241WZ is released too. That might well be worth a look too as BFI sounds interesting too :)
