Hi all,

My current system is starting to show its age. It's a Packard Bell IPower X8640 and used 90% for gaming. I have replaced the Mobo due to it failing but recently is crashes when playing even fairly old games (Fable III, COH)

Think the parts below are correct :-)

CPU - Intel Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
MB - ASUSTeK P5N-D - Socket 775 LGA
GPU - Twin Nvidia GeForce 9600 GS
HDD - 2xsata HDD's (both 500gb)
Memory - 6GB DDR2

Maybe I already know the answer but as a struggling student who wants a decent rig (able to play Shogun 2 Total war , Rome 2 etc on good settings - doesnt need to be Max) should I be upgrading to a complete new rig or looking at upgrading my existing system?

Could I salvage anything from my own PC to cut down costs and save my student loan?

I don't need....

Keyboard
Mouse
Monitor
OS

Thanks for any advice.

Student.

Hi zakblood,

Its been a while since it was reformatted or restored to factory settings.

I guess it would be worth trying?

How does the GPU's fair to today's more modern cards as in would I see a big difference in upgrading?

Thanks.

Hi,

I will check the PSU and report back.

I guess I have to open the case and check that from the PSU itself?

What tool would i use to keep a record of the temps pre/post crash?

Thanks.

Student.
