Hi guys - I am on sky broadband and have a 6.13mb line (im on upto 8mb)

Done some speedchecks, and it says the max is 5.3mb - which is still really good!

However, when I download a file, the max I have ever seen is 650kb per second. How come Im not getting the full whack 5.2mb download speed?

I have this aswell -

Hopefully you can see that! :D

650kb/sec download speed means you have a 6.5mb connection, so that means your actually getting speeds above what your meant to :p

i dunno why they say 8meg etc but what actually happens is you generally get a tenth of your connection as download speed, so 8meg = 800kb/sec etc.

so no your not getting shafted.

That seems about right.
I think you are getting confused between megabits and megabytes. There are 8 megabytes in a megabit.
So 5.3/8 = 662kb

dont worry mate, i should be getting simaler to you, im all Tier 3, but imn only pulling 3.5meg through a 6meg line!

Ahhhhh, I get it now - so if I had the full whack 8mb line - I would be getting a tenth of it, 800kb?

So those people who pay for 20mb per second broadband only get 2mb max.

Con of the century? ;)
