Am I getting too old for PC gaming?

I bought a GTX 460 the other day to try and get back into some PC gaming. I bought COD4 MW, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock and Crysis on the reccomendations of this forum.

The thing is, I just cannot get back into the swing of things. I'm just not enjoying it. The standout game amongst those 4 is COD4 MW. I'm loving the single player. I've had a look at playing online (through my 3 mobile broadband dongle! :)) and things are just too hectic. I'm 38 now and I think my reactions are going!

Initial thoughts on Bioshock is that it's going to be repetitive. Assassin's Creed is repetitive. I've played it for long enough already to find that out.

I'm considering selling up already and getting a PS3 for playing more 'leisurely' games like Tiger Woods, FIFA, G1 Jockey and Red Dead Redemption.

Has there been a cut off point for you? And at what age? Have your gaming choices and preferences changed as you've got older?

You should try role-playing story driven games if you really want to be drawn in. Assassins Creed is just a snore-fest so no wonder you got bored playing it and Crysis is widely regarded as great graphically but nothing short of mediocre gameplay wise. Before you give up I recommend having a look at games such as The Witcher, Mass Effect 1&2 aswell as Dragon Age Origins.

hi
im 46 and getting a little bit peed off at gaming in general . ive got a ps3 but i dont use that much . im waiting for rage , doom 4 , bulletstorm. the gap seems to be getting wider and wider for the titles to come out that i like . try dead space . the controls are that clunky that it actually makes it scarier cos you cant get out of the way very quickly

cheers

no offence but you bought 3 pretty crap games and mw1 is half decent :o

Play fallout 2 should be able to get it for practically nothing and it's awesome.

also Stalker Clear sky with the complete mod :)

I remember when I was like 14 through to 16 all I played was CoD 2, then moved on to 360 when that came out for about a year then back to PC Gaming now..

Ive always played WoW and still playing it now alongside SC2.

I have bought BC2 and other new games but I haven't put as much hours into them as I did CoD2.. I think games are to short or the online is to OTT and doesn't hold my attention for long.

I also own a PS3 and sometimes buy console games if it looks good, but even they don't hold me. :p

I'm 42 and still loving it. I have about 10 games not yet played on steam. Just working my way through stalker atm.

I find I don;t have the time to dedicate to games like when I was younger and hence take ages to finish things.

I have a part finished mass effect, dragons age, the witcher, bioshock 2, fallout 3 and a few others.

I reckopn just to finished the games I'm part way through will take 200 to 300 hours. I only get an hour or two every night so many, many months ahead of me and by then there will be even more games for me to play.:D

Erm... I'm sorry but if I'm unable to play games at 38 because of "my reactions". I will kill myself.

I mean come on, are you gaming professionaly or just having fun? Surely it can't be THAT Bad.

I hope when I'm 38 I'm still upgrading my PC to play games :D

I think you just need to find the right game for you. Get as many demos as you can of the games you like the look and sound of. Good luck :)

im 29 and i know what you mean about reaction times lol. im slowly getting back into FPS games though (playing hl2 again and the 2 add-ons) also borrowed cod4 too which im playing a bit along side stalker:shadow of chernobyl+complete mod. i did start to worry i had caught OCD as i just could not get into any games until recently, but somethign just clicked a few weeks ago and im off again now

I think I'm looking for a game that I can 'get lost' in. Football Manager 11 is out in a month or 2 but that doesn't need my 460 to play it!

Tried Fallout 3 on an Xbox360 a while ago and didn't like it.

I think my habits might have changed. I seem to play on my PC in short blasts rather than hours upon hours. Maybe a console would suit my needs more?

As I said, I'm really enjoying the single player COD4. Some of the firefights are like scenes out of a movie. I wouldn't get that on a console.

41 and still gaming.

Your reactions don't go with age you just need practice and even if you are a little slower than the young whipper snappers, you can beat them with a superior tactics.

Fallout 2

Fallout 3 was a money grubbing rape of the franchise tbh.

The main thing is to find the right kind of game. For myself, I like story driven games more and more as I get older and find myself quite often disliking games that are distinctly modern.

Then again, I was always old in my head.

I do not think the fondness of gaming in general is depleting, but taste does change with age and you often find that the things you idealised in your youth is no longer what you want from your free time in general, so why should it stay constant with games?

U played mw against people who have had the game years your bound to get owned.

On consoles players are just as good as players on pc and if your not used to using a controller you would be at a bigger dissadvantage.

I am really into my gaming i never got into bioshock either, i never finshed cryris, i found crysis warhead to be more enjoyable. I never bought or tried assains creed cause i dont liek them types of games.

I played mw to death when it first came out.

My suggestions would be.

For single player.
Mass effect 1 and 2, Batman arkum asylum, Metro. Dragon age, fallout 3, oblivion. Star wars knights of the old republic 1 and 2. Just cause 2 and gta 4. Half life 2 and the episodes. Football manager

For mp

Team fortress 2, left for dead 1 and 2, battle field bad company 2.

Plus many more if you like racing games and rts games.

Seriously, just get the Orange Box on DVD like what was said in the other thread and put Steam in offline mode. Problem solved.
