am i going to kill myself?

I had a 412bhp R33 GTR at 20 and I'm still alive. :)

I guess it depends on what kind of driver you are. I've seen enough middle aged incompetent drivers to know that it isn't always age that is the primary factor (although it is a trend).

Well i went from a 1.2 corsa to a 4.5L mustang in another country for 3 months and only came close to binning it once :D, in my defense it was raining in a place that doesnt rain much so the road was a touch slippery.

I think you will be fine, espcailly since its scoob to scoob

Go and get some insurance quotes :). At 18 with 2 years NCB I doubt many insurers will want to know, or if they do, they will charge you a hefty fee. And thats before you tell them its moded ;).

One question though; if you arent a speedy driver then why do you need a turbo'ed Scoob, surely the Sport should be enough for you? ;)

If you think you can trust yourself with the extra power, then definitely go for it.

You started off with a car which is more powerful than a lot of people, and yet you've been sensible (or not ;)) with it. I drove like a **** in my first year and wrote off one car, but since that, I've calmed down a hell of a lot and only speed where I think it's completely safe to do so.

I'm hoping to take the same route as you next year (getting a turbo) and I think having the extra power there will be fantastic. I'll just have to learn to control my right foot.

Rover 220 turbo?, very nice one of the few rovers to be proud of ;)

And on the other hand if you are just going to drive sensibly, why get a Impreza turbo :p

Why do people call Subaru's MY and then the year? What does it stand for?
i believe it's model year.
rather than say it's a 1999 car which may be the first of a new shape or last of an old shape, MY99 tells you exactly which model it is.

if you find someone who will insure you please let me know, im having enough troulbe being 20 getting quotes!

I would go for it if you can afford it.

to hoon around in when and where sensible :p
cheers for the comments guys, I've considered all the running costs (extra fuel, more regular services etc) and I think I'll manage it rather easily !! :D
I have seen some people be lucky enough to get quoted at my age, but I think I will be 19 at the time. I'll be buying a mint UK classic I think, and leave the power mods well alone for a good while. But instead upgrade the chassis with better brakes, tyres, suspension etc.
As you say it's only money, and I feel if I get the brunt of high insurance now, and deal with it (like I have) then in the long term when I'm older and want a house, I should have no problem with extra money coming out. In a sense setting myself up I reckon ;)

O and the rapid acceleration was 9 months and still is with NUD

MY stands for model year, and the number after that is the year in which the last major revision happened

its a bit like referring to MK 1, II, III, IV V, escorts etc..

its just Subaru have the "model year" rather than a mark, or in BMWs case, a random number like E39.

and replying to the original OP, i cant see how a turbo can be that much more difficult to drive. At the end of the day, the subarus main problem is understeer, not oversteer. and this is where most inexperienced drivers come undone.

Somebody can lose control of any car irrelevant if its FWD, RWD or 4x4 as all cars have their limits and if you push close or pass them your gonna end up off the road on your roof no doubt.

Agreed. I've owned a 5 litre 8 cylinder car with completely inept road manners for a couple of years now, and I've come closer to losing control in a 39bhp Fiat hatchback. Unless you're truly dangerous on the roads you ought to be fine.
