When I was 16 and a half I bought a suprise tele for my mum at (xxxyyy) electrical store. I put in my details that (xxxyyy) asked for. Name, address, etc.
I bought my mum a nice 22" Flatscreen LCD TV that took all my pocket money, but I didn't mind because it was for mothers day. :)

Anyway, now that i'm 17 and a quarter I recieved a letter through the post from the Television Liscence people saying I need to pay for a licsence because I purchased a tele from (xxxyyy).

I haven't got the money they're asking for. However, I live with my mum and she pays for the tele licsence.

Am I going to prison? :( :p

Tv licensing is so stupid.

If its a serious question then just ignore the letter. They should have seen your address and noted that there was already a license there.

Tell them shove it where the sun don't shine, ;) If the TV lisence has been paid for at the address you specified when you bought the TV, then there's nothing they can do, there probably just being your typical company/public 'service' and trying to go out of there way to cause people stress.

Yup. I've been living with my mum all my life (i'm only 17, can't fork out rent! :p)

My mum's had a liscence for the big tele in the living room.
The tele I bought her was for her room.

When I moved house 6 years ago I transferred my TV licence ( direct debit paid ) and heard nothing more , 6 months later it all went mad , in 10 days I received 18 letters ( including 6 on one day ) saying I didn't have a TV licence

muppets

You will go to prison most likely, probably for longer than a murderer.
But don't worry as you will get your own TV there & won't have to pay for the licence so it evens itself out in the long run, or stretch...

they did this to me when I bought a TV for our house,my other half pays for the licence in her own name. After ignoring all the letters except for one which I returned asking them if their adverts were true and the had a list of all houses without a licence, in which case they would find that we have one. They still came to the door about 9 month later when I told them to go away and do their job properly. They came back a week later when I was out and forced my other half to show them a current licence
If you do not want to go down this road then just tell them it was a gift for your mother, not that it will make any difference to them as they are all thick as planks!

I bought a DVD player and got the same letter (yes a dvd player), even though it cannot receive TV signals and therefore does not as far as I am aware need a licence.

Anyway they started sending really threatening letters saying I could end up going to court etc . I sent them I nice email telling them that a TV licence already held at this address and I don’t need one for simply buying a DVD player anyway. I got a really snotty email back basically just saying get a licence you thief (duh my parents already have one.)

This didn’t stop them sending more, in the end I just thought they can take me to court if they want I have a licence anyway. I ignored future letters - problem solved.

It amazes me that they have the inability to match addresses; it can’t be that hard can it?
