Few weeks ago I brought an MSI 280x GPU & after a week of problems with it artifacting I returned it & upgraded to an MSI 290
However, a few days into owning it I'm getting black screens after running any game for more than a couple of minutes.
Tried the usual, changed drivers, updated everything you can think of swopped cables DVI , HDMI all the same.
Am I just unlucky at getting two faulty MSI cards or is there an underlying problem?
Maybe time to admit defeat & go nvidia!

System is as follows.
4770k @ 4.5GHZ (also tried running at stock)
8GB Avexir 2133mhz
MSI Z87_G45 motherboard
1000w Bequiet psu

Any suggestions appreciated.

Maybe it is time to go nVidia. Lots of threads recently and even one of them had Customer Services tell the guy to send back his 280X and get an nVidia card. Something up with AMD cards it seems, as thread after thread after thread seems to be a problem with an AMD card.

Get a GTX780 you won't regret it I'm maxing games at ultra Settings on 1080P no issues, no problems, no noise and GPU temperatures in the low 40's

Msi seem to have fallen over the edge lately, what with the 280x issues regarding vrm temps and having to rush out a bios. A far cry from the Nvidia Msi range!

It's all luck. I've had a fair share of doa nvidia cards and amd over the years... If you like the card get it replaced again. Surely not third time unlucky.

Well after a few more tests including underclocking the card by 25% i'm still getting black screen forcing a hard reset.
Games ran longer at the reduced clocks, but still locked up after 15-20 mins, so I'm returning the card for one last try at AMD before calling it a day & moving to Nvidia.

Strange that running back to back tests of Firestrike, it ran fine, but 2 mins of Grid 2 caused a black screen as did AC4

I found with mine that overclocking the core too far caused it to give me a black screen, memory volts didn't matter.

Have you tried increasing the volts?

My first card had this. I rma then received 2 that are perfect. There does seem to be a high number of this on that card but it is luck of the draw. And remember if something doesn't work out of the box rma it. You should not have to manually alter things to get it working

Before you send it back as faulty, which it sounds like it is. Flick the bios switch to position 2 and see if the issue still occurs.

Nvidia = less headaches

doubtfull

My friend had to return 2 nvidia cards he bought from another retailer one after another because they were faulty (artifacts), i think they were MSI as well.

It happens on both sides of the camp and it's just one of those things, just RMA it and hope the replacement works :)

Did that last night & no improvement. Asked for an RMA number, just waiting for them to send one. Had a reply sugesting I update my drivers, update direct x, re-install windows etc which I've already checked & my Windows install is only 6 weeks old,
but simple fact is the card is faulty so needs to go back. :(

Yeah sounds like that is the case. 13.12 WHQL drivers?
