Am I lucky?

I'm upgrading at Christmas and so have decided to try and overclock my CPU (now that I don't need to worry about being without a computer for weeks on end).

I'm on a q6700 with the stock fan.

I'm at 3.4Ghz (340x10) @ 1.45v and my 800mhz rated DDR2 ram at 850 @ stock voltage.

My temps when running P95 for around 15-20 minutes are maxing around 70-72 on all cores.

Am I lucky or is this standard? I've read that these cpu's are good for 24/7 usage at 71degrees celcius.

P.S - I'm only asking because I'm also using a standard box case with NO fans in it, except the graphics card and CPU fan.

Also, I've bought the OcUK Vantage Gaming case for crimbo and was wondering if I should remove the side fan, for a pure push-pull healing config, or if the side fan will actually help.

Thanks in advance

No

the side fan will help on your new build

if your getting a new build why not go for a higher clock.

Temps will not get that high in normal use

Usually 400x9 3.6Ghz is achievable with improved cooling

I'd recommend getting a half-decent CPU cooler to replace the stock one, which combined with your new case will give decent airflow & cooling.

Q6700's are rated good for up to 1.55v or 1.5v I don't remember exactly. But like I said I'm upgrading come Christmas.

Because it's rated that high doesn't mean it needs to be that high. I run my Q6600 at 3.6GHz with little over 1.3v, max temps around 60°c. If you can't get the vcore any lower then it is then you're not that lucky.
