Am I missing out?

Hi guys, I dont keep up with pc stuff really I've got a 6600 and a 260gtx card and 8gb or ddr2 ram and thats about where it was when I last looked,

Just wondering if im missing out with usb3 or ddr3 or new processors?

Personal thoughts, not really, you might find the system a bit snappier with a new i3/i7 cpu or AMD equivalent.

Thought about overclocking your system

im running at 3.2... well i was until i got onto windows 7 it seems to get unstable every month or so. could do with some bios tweaking but dont really get much spare time after work and not really sure what id do, its on 3.2ghz on air

As always it depends on your definition of 'missing out'.

If your computer can still keep up with what you want to do (I'll take a guess that you're a gamer?) then in a way it's silly to upgrade for the sake of it. You didn't mention if it's the E6600 or the Q6600, if it's the E6600 then you might consider upgrading to quad core in the near future as more games make use of that. If it's the Q6600 then your system should be more than enough to keep you going for a while longer (unless you're playing with a seriously high screen resolution).

If you do video editing and design etc, you could make use of some newer technologies. Apart from that, if you aren't having any problems with speed and performance then I guess its a call only you can make.

Edit: As a W7 user, you could always find use and vast speed increases using an SSD hard drive.

upgrade to the Male version of windows, its stable all month...

SSD is on the list just trying to decide which and space is an issue so it will have to be a 128gb one minimum,

I dont actually play games on my pc, just video editing and design weirdly^ nice guess

I work with a lot of r3d files but its not a problem as I usually work from proxies but if the workflow could be speeded up significantly with a newer i7 then id certainly go for it, just didnt know how good they were at crunching

Should also maybe mention its out putting to a 24" display and a 720p Projector, if that has any bearing on load?
