I have just had a look on a calculator website using 90% of max power across all components and wattage is at the rated level on my PSU

could anyone tell me if this is reliable? The spec is in my Sig (also have 2 CPU fans, 3 200mm fans and one 80mm fan as well as 5 USB devices and a pciex1 tv tuner)

if I am.. How would I tell?

Yes, looking at the link above and this shows the system pulls 470w on the 6950 and 564w on the 6970 whilst gaming.

My system in sig pulls 500w from the mains with Furmark and Prime running.

thanks, didn't see the link before (using the tablet atm), I'm just trying to see why my pc keeps failing on demanding games when it shouldn't be. PSU passes then

As your overclocked is you system stable, try with Prime 95 to check, I needed to up my vcore a little a few months ago.

Also are the cards stable, as you have them running at 6970 speeds (assuming your sig is correct)

the last time I played the CPU was not overclocked at all..maybe a problem in itself?

both gpus are shader unlocked only, not using the (6970 bios) 840 and 1290 on the GPU clocks nothing major at all
