My parents booked a holiday and were away for the birth of my child (their second grandchild).

They've now just announced they've booked another holiday for this year (they go on about 5 or 6 a year) and as a result will miss her first birthday.

When it came to my nephew they dropped and will drop literally anything for him.

Would you be miffed or am I being a delicate little flower?

Unfortunately you need to suck it up. Would I be correct in thinking that your nephew is your sister's son? Because there's a different bond with daughters than with sons. Your daughter is too little to remember any of it anyway.

try not to let it bother you, their loss not yours.

This.

Your parents sound like my in-laws. Just remember they had it significantly easier than us and don't see life the way we would (I know right now when my girl has kids I am going to be surrogate mother/father and do all their DIY).

Yeah, sister's son. As an example they cancelled a holiday to go and see his first football game.

I see your viewpoint and if I’m being honest would feel the same.

I’m an only child which was fine but the in-laws dote on my niece and nephew but rarely engage with my kids, family’s are odd things.

Try to enjoy the day, they go way too fast with when they are small.

You sound like my grandad was for my cousins. Absolute DIY machine!

Disclaimer: not a parent.

Every parent thinks their little darlings are the 2nd coming.
Everyone else thinks they're little sheets, or at best wants little or nothing to do with them :p
But the parents demand that the kids are the centre of the known universe :p
Maybe they don't like your kid? Or you?

I would like to say 'nah got over it no big deal', but honestly thinking about it I might feel the same way, particularly as this is kind of twice in a row.

I'm sure they don't mean anything by it, but at the same time I can see why it might have touched a nerve if it feels like your nephew gets different treatment. I'm not a parent, but as some of my friends have become parents in the past few years I have seen first hand how natural it is to be very protective of your kid and be very sensitive on their behalf.

+1 for the try not to let it bother you approach though.

Oh I'm well aware she's not the second coming, although she is a delight. Very happy, smiley little thing so no reason to dislike her. They're welcome to dislike me but they shouldn't treat her differently as a result.

I was not being entirely serious, in case it wasn't obvious. I'm sure she is the 2nd coming.

In any case, I'd rather have a cat.

Also the day I moved in they emptied her bedroom of all this tat and giant stuff; and then had to leave as soon as they arrived to miss the rain (he doesn't like driving in rain).
