i have a tagan 480 w psu one off the first things i bought when i built my first system
anyway i have just put in a 4600x2 and loaded speedfan to monitor the temps ,i was surprised to see the +12v only reading 8.82v is this normal ? .

What are the rest of your specs? 8.82v is way too low for the 12V line. AFAIK a 5% variance from 12V is ok. Any more is not good. Ive got a 480W tagan with loads of stuff connected, and I have no problem at all.

I think if it was undervolting that much it would probably crash? Most I've ever seen is into the 10s.

What mobo is it also? Might be something to do with that.

cheers for the replys , my specs are
asrock 939 sli32-esata
amd 4600x2
2x 7800gt
2x dvd burners
2x hard drives
it isn't crashing though can play games for hours but them vaults r very low

reading 11.9v in bios ,speedfan is under reading both temp and volts . anybody else got an asrock board ? what u useing ?

Pickup a cheap multi-meter and do a few readings - at least then you can see what's happening real-time under various loads - remember that what you see in the Bios isn't really representitive as the system is essentially at idle, and not really stressing the PSU

Found a nice little calcutator HERE

Really ought to be getting something a little beafier!

your right that is a nice calculator , downside is that says i need 537watts to run my system . think i better get the seasonic i was looking at thx for the help guys
ps what programme to monitor temps on asrock board ?

Motherboard Monitor should work - check out their site (mbm5) and check - if not do a google for MBM5 and your mobo + config file, and I'm sure you'll find one - had that problem with my DFI and had to use a custom Config - works a treat now.

(I'd definitely go for a shiny new PSU if you're worried about your old one - bear in mind that that calculator is quite pessimistic, and if your system is stable then you're doing fine - but if the PSU does self destruct, it can do a lot of damage on the way out  ) - make sure whatever you do get is big/quiet enough for your needs and make by a 'good' company - nothing worse than being suckered into buying dross

Speedfan reads my Asrock board's +12V as 10.9, which is completely wrong, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah - sorry, that's a German model, and I know how fiddly it is ordering from their websites :D I'm sure I've seen some plans kicking about if you fancy doing a home-build ;)
