Am I pushing it too quickly?

Hi

I got a new P35 GA-DS4 with an E6750 on a stock cooler and some Corsair Dominator TWIN2X6400C4D 2048MB a week or so ago.

I let it run at stock speeds for three days, and I then o/c'ed it to 3.2 for 2 days (following the guide in the mobo sticky). All was well. Last night I popped into the BIOS and adjusted the FSB to 425, giving me 3.4Ghz. The temps (using TAT) are about 35-37 on Core 0 and 39-41 on Core 1. All looks ok.

Is this ok? Am I pushing it too hard, too fast?

Side of case is open, by the way :)

It's fine up to a certain amount, such as if you find your chip does 400x8 no problem at all then you can recreate that setup and not worry about just jumping from 266 to 400 in the BIOS. I would take it easy though at your level, increment a lot slower.

Haha I know there are a lot of people who literally overclock their PC's the day they build then but I personally like to take my time and run the machine at stock for a few days or week, depends whether or not its a completely new platform.

If you have built lots of systems before using similar components then of course you don't have to hang around so much but for a first build or new chipset etc I would take my time.

There is no right or wrong way of doing this, its a personal choice based on previous experiences and the £££ cost £££ of the kit.

New PC normally means running at stock and a 24 hour prime *blend* run for me, get a feel for it and observe temps etc. Once its run flawlessly for a few days/week then thats the time I begin tweaking.

If its just a simple upgrade like swapping out a CPU alone then obviously this speeds things up but I would still run the CPU at stock first to make sure its sweet!
